Martin Marine's Heritage

R.S. Martin founded the Martin Family of Companies following his service in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He participated in the battle for Iwo Jima in addition to other Pacific campaigns.

From those beginnings, Martin has evolved into a large family of both public and private entities. The marine transportation segment was formed in 1983 as Martin Gas Marine. Martin Offshore followed in the late 1980s. The segment continued to grow with the acquisition of Barge Transport Company, Tenn Tom Towing and the acquisition of the assets of Tesoro Marine. These five legacy groups were unified into Martin Marine in early 2008.
